What is Real Help?
The Real Help repair and renovation ministry is our own version to the community of an extreme makeover. As our way of showing God’s love in a practical way, volunteers attempt to bless hurting people in our communities with much-needed home repair and renovations.
Some Real Help projects are complete in a day – such as replacing a damaged front door on a family’s mobile home, clearing away a fallen oak tree for an elderly woman with no extra funds to have it taken care of, building a handicap ramp for a newly wheelchair-bound gentleman, or repairing a fence for a mother undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Some Real Help projects are completed in a few hours – such as helping a widow pack and move, or housecleaning for a family dealing with a seriously ill child. And three or four times a year, Real Help completes a large-scale “home make-over” – cleaning, painting, repairing and renovating for a family in need or crisis. In just over 24 hours between Friday evening and Sunday’s Reveal, a miracle of organization, donations, and the hands and feet of hundreds of volunteers complete the transformation of a house in need to a family blessing.
Real Help has completed over 300 projects, both large and small, since it began in 2007. These blessings of home repair and renovations and practical help were only made possible through the efforts of the army of individuals dedicated to volunteering their time, talents and treasures in an effort to be obedient to God’s command in James 2:18: Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
Real Help recipients are members of the community who have been brought to our attention by the caring and concerned hearts of those who know them personally and those who know only of their need.
